Big Lake Public Schools #727 incorporates an area of 64-square miles located in east central Minnesota, with a population of approximately 16,303. Big Lake Schools consist of two elementary schools, Liberty and Independence (both pre-K-5), a middle school (6-8) and a high school (9-12), with a total enrollment of 3,600. Elementary students and staff work toward high levels of student achievement through a strong curriculum with a clear focus on reading, writing and math. There are opportunities for communication service, computer literacy, music, physical education and art. A parent-teacher-student organization (PTSO) meets monthly. The Middle School offers a complete, well-rounded education specific to the specialized needs of adolescent-aged students. Each student is assigned to an academic and homeroom advisor for the entire three years. Advisors focus on academic, social and emotional development for the student's success. The High School offers a wide variety of educational a co-curricular opportunities that enable students to succeed in school and life. Courses offered include AP, College in the Classroom, music, industrial technology and business education. Big Lake considers itself a flagship district in which each student is a competent and successful learner.
